One more from the Transformers franchise. This one is also from Takara Tomy. Joining the New Legends lineup, which already includes Menasor G2 Color Ver., Nemesis Star Convoy, and Gigastorm—a retool and redeco of the Titans Return Trypticon mold—is the Transformers New Legends NL-05 Galvatron (Beast Wars II).
You don’t need to be a fan of Beast Wars II to adore this figure. Any mecha-head would be sold on this villainous toy. I mean, seriously, a pink-and-purple Galvatron gritting his teeth? Like, what’s not to love, right?
This incarnation of Galvatron, for the uninitiated, is a triple-changer. This means it has three unique modes. It transforms from a menacing robot into a drill tank (albeit a rather abstract one), and then into a ferocious “I am not an evolved Pokémon” dragon.
As a drill tank, it touts a rotating drill, which can be locked to prevent it from rotating errantly, if so desired. In dragon mode, the wings and neck boast multiple articulation points for dynamic posing. But the real star is, IMHO, Galvatron in bot mode, which stands at an imposing 26 cm (10.2 inches) tall.
This Galvatron—possibly the best-looking one yet, IMHO—may be based on Beast Wars II, but it has something unique to the New Legends line. It comes with Unicron Horns—in addition to two Galva-Axes, one Scissor-Hand accessory, and a Cover Part—letting you recreate his appearance as an incarnation of Unicron in Beast Wars Neo. You know, with the horns on the sides of his head? Not going to lie, that’s the look that sold me. Interestingly, Takara Tomy didn’t even highlight this in the promo video. There’s a need to highlight that this is a Japanese toy that comes with instructions in Japanese.
Anyhoo, the Transformers New Legends NL-05 Galvatron (Beast Wars II) is now available for reservation in Japan for 18,700 yen plus tax [JP], with availability later this year. Meanwhile, across the Pacific Ocean, you can secure a copy by pre-ordering from Hasbro Pulse and other major toy retailers for US$129.99. It is expected to arrive stateside around January 26, 2027.
