Xiaomi Mix 4 Announced The Brand’s First Under Display Camera

Xiaomi Mix 4 Smartphone

After 3 years of development, 60 patents filed, and roughly 500 million Chinese yuan, Xiaomi’s under-display camera has finally arrived. The handset maker (and maker of everything under the sun) showed off its third-gen under-display camera technology last year, only be beaten by ZTE in getting it onto the market, twice.

Folks, this is the Xiaomi Mix 4, the brand’s first device with an under-display camera. Fronting the device is a 120 Hz 6.67-inch Camera Under Panel (CUP) full-screen FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) TrueTone AMOLED display, packing 400 PPI and boasting a billion colors, HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision support, and more importantly, a 20 MP camera beneath it.

Around the rear is a tri-camera setup comprising of a 108 MP “4-in-1” Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) main camera, a 13 MP free-form ultra wide-angle camera, and an 8 MP telephoto capable of 50x periscope telephoto (5x optical zoom) with OIS.

The device is powered by this flagship chip from Qualcomm, Snapdragon 888+, along with the fastest memory there is today, LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1, and paired to a 4,500 mAh battery that supports 120 W fast wired charging and 50 W wireless charging.

Other key features include Wi-Fi 6, Harman Kardon sound, stereo speaker, support Hi-Res audio, Ultra Wide Band (UWB) for spatial positioning, NFC, Corning Gorilla Victus glass, super Bluetooth, IR blaster, X curvilinear motor, and all-new “anti-lost” function. The latter is worthy of a mention.

The so-call anti-lost is not to be confused with Find My Device. It is more. It will prevent the device from being used if someone picked it up. It is a series of features, including binding the SIM card to the phone to prevent the SIM card from being misused on another phone.

At the same time, the phone can be located even if the SIM card is removed as the device will create a virtual SIM card on the phone itself. Finally, the phone cannot be restarted (to set to factory settings and such) without entering the PIN you have set.

The Xiaomi Mix 4 Smartphone is offered in 8 + 128 GB, 8 + 256 GB, 12 + 256 GB, and 12 + 512 GB flavors and has a starting price of 4,999 yuan (around US$770). The phone will be released next month.
