Xiaomi Sound 2 Max: A Bauhaus-Inspired Speaker With Serious Power

Xiaomi Sound 2 Max Speaker

Want to see a really cool-looking speaker with a Bauhaus minimalist design, packed with high-end circuitry, and won’t break the bank? If yes, here it is: the Xiaomi Sound 2 Max. That’s right. Xiaomi is not only gunning for the high-end market with its phones; it is doing so with its latest iteration of the Sound line of speakers.

The Xiaomi Sound 2 Max [CH] features a one-piece metal die-cast construction that looks straight out of a neo-retro sci-fi flick, and inside, it packs a high-end three-way acoustic setup featuring a coaxial driver with a 1.5 in (3.8 cm) 10 W tweeter in the middle of a 4 in (10.2 cm) 30 W mid-range driver, and two 4 in (10.2 cm) 30 W woofers.

The symmetrical three-way layout keeps highs, mids, and lows tidy, smooth, and natural. With Xiaomi’s Music Integrity Engine, the sound is tuned to be balanced and faithful, while the dual woofers push out bass that is solid, deep, and elastic.

Connectivity is handled by Bluetooth 5.2 with LHDC support, RCA, Type-C, and Xiaomi Instant Play. It also supports Dolby Audio, stereo pairing, smart spatial calibration, and even multi-room setups with four units working together for surround sound.

On top of that, you get Xiaomi’s “Super XiaoAi” smart assistant, full smart home control with Mesh 2.0, and access to music and audio platforms galore. Oh, the speaker’s aesthetic is customizable somewhat, too. You can change the facade with the optional wood, metal, or fabric grille. You can also have it on an optional floor stand if you desire.

Finally, you can pair two for a true stereo setup.

The Xiaomi Sound 2 Max starts at 1,999 yuan [CH] (about US$275).
