Your phone may be responsible for destroying your attention span, but the Xteink X4 Pro Pocket eReader wants to hitch a ride on it and repair some of the damage. Thanks to built-in magnets, the tiny reader can cling to a compatible phone or case like a literary backpack, keeping a book within reach whenever doomscrolling begins calling.
The X4 Pro measures just 111 × 69 × 5.95 mm (4.37 × 2.72 × 0.23 inches) and weighs 72 g (2.54 oz), yet squeezes in a 4.3-inch, 219-ppi E Ink display. It features a touchscreen with adjustable dual-tone front lighting, alongside physical page-turn buttons for readers who prefer a proper click.
Storage comes courtesy of an included 16 GB microSD card, expandable up to 256 GB. DRM-free EPUB and TXT files can be transferred wirelessly through the Xteink app, via a computer, or directly on the memory card. Unlocked firmware also invites developers to tinker with it—responsibly, one hopes. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an 1,100 mAh battery, custom wallpapers, and clock and photo modes round out the pocket library.
Charging and wired data transfers rely on a magnetic pogo-pin adapter rather than a built-in USB-C port. Why? Well, one can only guess.
The Xteink X4 Pro is listed at US$99, down from US$109, if anyone’s interested. The only color option is Space Black.
