One half of streetwear label AMBUSH, Korean-American designer Yoon Ahn has dressed Barbie for a future where anime, street style, and robotics apparently share the same wardrobe. The result is the Barbie Signature Barbie x Yoon Ahn Doll, an avant-garde collector piece that looks ready to attend Fashion Week before saving Neo Tokyo.
Instead of giving Barbie a fashionable outfit, as one would have expected from a creative director, Ahn reimagined her with anime-inspired hair, a futuristic headset, and sculpted armor covering her newly designed body. The clean white-and-black aesthetic is minimalist in color but anything but restrained in execution.
The doll features a new sculpted body paired with a Kit face sculpt and rocks 13 points of articulation, allowing you to pose her like the lead character in an anime nobody quite understands. But, of course, as a Barbie doll, she inherits the same trait: she cannot stand on her own without falling over at the slightest tremor. Hence, she comes with a doll stand that allows her to assume poses without drama.
Barbie also comes with a robotic cat because no technologically advanced fashion icon should have to face the future without a mechanical feline. The companion has six points of articulation and matches Barbie’s futuristic visual language.
The doll was designed by Suim Noh and features packaging designed by Diana Leto, completing the gallery-worthy presentation. She, of course, comes with a certificate of authenticity, so you can prove that yours isn’t a knockoff in the event that the doll goes viral.
