Another collectible that will ignite the nostalgia in kids who grew up in the ’80s. We heard someone is creating statues of Visionaries. Yes, that Visionaries. These statues of Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light by SaberMach (in collaboration with Blue Whale Studios Inc.) have been a long time coming. It can only be described as a roller-coaster ride for collectors. The project went from excitement to anticipation, to… a scam.
Long story short, one of the original proposers of these awesome statues ran off with the money. His partner, however, didn’t—and after a short hiatus, decided to move forward with the project. Unfortunately, for those who put down deposits previously, that money is probably gone. But hey, I may have interpreted things incorrectly. You can check out the full story in a Facebook post by Jay of SaberMach.
So, rejoice, fans of Visionaries. The Visionaries statue, specifically the Darkstorm statue, is a go. My understanding is that the lost deposits were for this Darkstorm piece. Apparently, there was a Leoric statue previously. So, I imagine folks who already have Leoric can finally look forward to completing the setup.
Details are still a bit murky, but if we go by the 2023 info (pre-fiasco) and assume nothing major has changed, Darkstorm will be 1/4 scale (read: huge!) like Leoric, and feature two different head sculpts: one with a helmet and one without. Expect an internally lit chest piece and staff, plus interchangeable totems and power staff—both lighting up in an intense green.
In Jay’s August 13 post, he said SaberMach has acquired the nine balanced Leoric statues and plans to pair them with the new Darkstorm release. To celebrate the coming together of this powerful duo, SaberMach will offer exclusive collector perks: a classic Visionaries logo display piece, a nostalgic comic art collector card, and possibly an autographed plaque from the original Visionaries cartoon illustrators. Priority will be given to Leoric owners who express interest soon.
As for the price, expect Darkstorm to run you 999 USD. SaberMach projects a three-month production timeline, aiming to showcase it at the Comic Con Exhibition in December. Oh, and if you didn’t know, SaberMach is a Singapore-based company specializing in high-end, custom lightsabers.
