Destroyer The U-Boat Hunter Promised A Super Realistic Anti-submarine Simulation Game

The sub-hunting scenes by the Fletcher-class destroyer USS Keeling (radio call sign “Greyhound”) commanded by Ernest Krause (played by Tom Hanks) in the war film Greyhound now streaming on Apple TV+ will keep you at the edge of your seat. The Destroyer The U-Boat Hunter video game, while not related to the Sony Pictures movie, is a World War II simulator that will let you do what Commander Krause did too.

Billed as the “most realistic and comprehensive WW2 anti-submarine warfare simulation available,” the Destroyer The U-Boat Hunter video game lets you assume the role of a Fletcher-class destroyer captain. As the skipper of an anti-submarine destroyer team, you have the liberty to automate certain tasks to free yourself to execute the operational side of things, or you can roll up your sleeve and do all the tasks yourself.

The tasks include identifying enemy vessels and plotting their projected inbound trajectories to positioning and commanding allied forces to intercept and attack enemy hostiles. This sounds exactly like just another day in the office for Krause and many destroyers’ captains during WWII.

Mind you, though. The Destroyer The U-Boat Hunter video game ain’t no child’s play. According to the developer, Iron Wolf Studio, this game is for experienced simulator veterans who demand the most realistic experience in this genre.

Expect to jump on the controls of a fully-equipped battleship with limited battlefield awareness, operate authentic instruments, and naval attack procedures to rid the sea of hostile submarines. In other words, if you are looking to hop onboard a destroyer and just hit the throttle off into the vast open waters, then this is not for you. This game meant serious business.

The Destroyer The U-Boat Hunter video game will be available on PC via Steam Early Access on September 28, 2022.

The game is developed by Iron Wolf Studio and published by developer/publisher Daedalic Entertainment. Meanwhile, you can learn more at the game’s official Steam game page and also have a look at what to expect in the announcement trailer after the break.
