New Evangelion X G-Shock Watch Is Inspired By EVA-02 Beast Mode

G-Shock DW-5600 EVA-02 The Beast Wrist Watch

Last year’s Evangelion x G-Shock watch was a bit of a letdown, IMHO. Because it was inspired by the iconic EVA Unit-01 and yet, it isn’t dressed in all-purple as it should. However, there is another Evangelion collaboration this year that is more recognizable.

This latest collab between the cult anime and the Japanese watchmaker is based on Asuka’s EVA-02 unit, specifically The Beast Mode. You know, the part where Mari piloted EVA-02 and goes into the Beast Mode, the so-called berserk mode, to attack the Tenth Angel in Evangelion 2.0?

Yeah, that gore-filled scene that’s strangely satisfying to watch. Wait. Is it just me who thinks…? Never mind. The watch is officially called G-Shock DW-5600 EVA-02 The Beast featuring Radio Eva. Radio Eva, for the uninitiated, is the EVA series official project (read: apparel line) that started over a decade ago.

While the G-Shock DW-5600 EVA-02 The Beast is rocking a red colorway, it does not necessarily point towards its Beast Mode inspiration. The watch is however more recognizable as an EVA cobranded timepiece – thanks to the custom face with the EVA-02 motif, and custom printed bands.

Another stand-out feature, IMHO, is the red-tinted inverted LCD display which looks super duper cool. That alone is enough reason to get the watch. OK. Maybe not. To each of his own.

In addition, the case back has received a special engraving of the “The Beast” logo along with Radio Eva. As with such a unique collaboration, the watch does come with exclusive packaging.

The watch, which sells for 22,000 yen (about US$197), appears to be a Japan-only product and it has already sold out. But this being the Internet age (and a scalper-filled world), I am sure you will find it being sold online somewhere. The question is, how much would pay for one?
