Yoshi Hatches in Real Life With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Hatchimals Toy

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Hatchimals Yoshi

You have seen Yoshi’s Egg, got a glimpse of it starting to hatch in the end-credits stinger of The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), and you probably saw Yoshi pop out of his egg in the new Super Mario movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026), which hit theaters on April 01, 2026. Now, see him hatch in real life with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: Hatchimals Yoshi from Takara Tomy.

No, Takara Tomy did not knock off Spin Master’s Hatchimals. In Japan, though, they are distributed and co-marketed as “うまれて!ウーモ (Umarete! Woomo),” or Hatchimals Alive, and are officially licensed products under Spin Master’s ownership, with local sales and branding undertaken by Takara Tomy.

Anyhoo, hatching Yoshi is a thing, and no, it is not as “gross” as the Primal Hatch T. Rex. The realism is within the boundaries of an animated character. Since this hatch process is a one-time thing, I think it is best to film the process. I would—with multiple cameras at different angles.

Part of the Hatchimals series, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: Hatchimals Yoshi is what you expect it to be: it lets you witness Yoshi emerging from the iconic oversized white egg with green spots. Simply gently knocking the egg or shaking it from side to side will initiate the hatching process. A fixing pin, cover, and lid ensure that Yoshi will not let himself out prematurely during transportation.

Yoshi is an interactive toy. It has sensors on the nose, the head, and the saddle for riding, a.k.a. the turtle shell on its back doubles as a button. Pressing this button triggers the dialog mode, and this little fella will go all chatty on you, and he will respond when you touch his nose and head. He has light-up eyes and will respond when you shake him. Spin him around for 10 seconds, and he will respond with dizziness. Lol!

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie: Hatchimals Yoshi is available to order from Takara Tomy Mall Japan for 12,998 yen (tax included) [JP] (about 82 USD), with shipping starting on April 25, 2026. Recommended for ages 4 and up.
