Following the Gundam Seed and Saint Seiya collections, China’s 170-year-old jeweler Lao Feng Xiang (老凤祥) has given another pop culture icon the golden treatment. Folks, meet the Lao Feng Xiang x Tetsuwan Atomu Collection.
Tetsuwan Atomu, for the uninitiated, is the official Japanese name of Astro Boy. It literally means “Iron-Armed Atom.” The flagship product of this collab is, of course, the golden statue. And in the case of the Astro Boy collection, there are two. There’s the 1 kg gold statue, limited to 10 pieces, and the 88g gold statue, limited to 188 pieces.
The master craftsmen at Lao Feng Xiang meticulously recreate Astro Boy’s iconic heroic launch pose in 999 pure gold. The 1,000g golden Tetsuwan Atomu measures 220 x 113 mm, while the 88g statue measures an adorable 81 x 42 mm.
Lao Feng Xiang is going generous with this collab. Buyers of the 88g Astro Boy “Heroic Launch” Gold Statue will receive an Astro Boy Box with a “fortune-hugging” gold card desktop art piece. Meanwhile, the elite few who put down their money for the uber-limited 1,000g statue will also get the box and gold card, plus a special Lao Feng Xiang x Astro Boy co-branded figurine, a co-branded mug, and an Astro Boy head desktop ornament.
Alongside the statues, Lao Feng Xiang also released Astro Boy pendants and charms. The charms come in four designs, each available in three weights: 0.8g, 1.16g, and 1.3g. The pendants come in two designs, each with the option of 2.28g or 2.68g. Oh, and that gold card thingy? It’s also available to buy, too.
As for pricing… well, you’d better sit down. The 88 g statue goes for 128,888 yuan (~17,965 USD), while the 1,000g version commands an astronomical (see what I did there? LoL!) 1,388,888 yuan (~193,585 USD). Clearly, those are for Scrooge McDuckians. Charms start at 1,499 yuan (~209 USD), pendants at 3,799 yuan (~530 USD), and the gold card thingy with display is the most affordable of the lot at 588 yuan (~82 USD).
