Petrolheads who cannot get enough of brick-built Formula 1 race cars will be glad to know that Aston Martin AMR23 has joined the small-scale, brick-built Formula 1 sets. The LEGO Aston Martin AMR23 is part of the LEGO Aston Martin Safety Car & AMR23 (76925) Set which also includes the LEGO Aston Martin Safety Car.
Since Formula 1 cars from the same season look the same aesthetically, the AMR23 is essentially the same as the LEGO Speed Champions 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car (76919), sharing the same halo, rear wing, et cetera. The key differences are the colors and the sponsors’ logos.
The set comes with two driver minifigures in Aston Martin outfit and helmet. The Safety Car features authentic features like a roof-mounted light bar, a lights control button sticker inside the cockpit, and taillights.
The set packs 564 pieces and when completed the Aston Martin AMR23 LEGO car measures over 1.5 in. (4 cm) high, 7.5 in. (19 cm) long, and 3 in. (7 cm) wide.
So why include the Safety Car when clearly the star is the Formula 1 car? I have a theory. If LEGO were to sell the Aston Martin F1 car by itself, it would be viewed as a recolor which may receive some flak from consumers. Then again, what do we expect when F1 cars from the same season all look the same?
Anyhoo, that’s just my wild guess. Whether or not it is true does not matter. What matters is that I will probably not pay extra to get a vehicle that I don’t want.
The LEGO Aston Martin Safety Car & AMR23 (76925) Set is available now for US$44.99 which is almost double the 76919. This makes no sense for someone like me who does not want the Safety Car.
