It’s unfortunate that the size of the LEGO Icons Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D does not permit a detailed bridge. But here’s the thing: the bridge is practically the entire Star Trek. Everything happens on the bridge: negotiation, romance, bickering, mourning, and happy times. As the emotional heart of the ship, it deserves a closer look… in bricks, and a closer look LEGO has given fans with the LEGO Icons Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Bridge (11385).
This model recreates the U.S.S. Enterprise bridge and transporter room using 1,701 pieces. The number of elements is not a coincidence; it is intentionally a reference to the ship’s registry number, NCC-1701. Kudos to the effort, which I am sure any true fan will appreciate.
Because of the number of elements and the fact that it focuses only on two of the most recognizable locations from the original Star Trek series, it allows for incredible detail. Expect to find the computer stations, a viewscreen displaying a Klingon warrior, and a transporter platform for crew deployment. Moreover, when completed, the modular sections can be arranged into a display configuration.
That’s not all. The set boasts several interactive features for you to recreate familiar on-screen moments. You can rock the captain’s chair to simulate ship turbulence and battle sequences, turn a dial to activate the transporter and move crew members between pads, and use a lever to open the turbolift doors.
The other star feature of the set, IMHO, would be the eight brand-new minifigures included. They comprise James T. Kirk, Spock, Nyota Uhura, Hikaru Sulu, Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Pavel Chekov, Christine Chapel, and Montgomery “Scotty” Scott. Plus, there are four tribbles—the iconic fluffy alien creatures from Star Trek—along with accessories such as two Starfleet communicators, four phasers, Spock’s harp, two Vulcan lirpas, and a Trident Scanner. The Starfleet communicators are represented by decorated 1×2 tiles, while the phaser is an all-new LEGO element.
The completed model measures 57 cm (22.5 inches) wide, 34 cm (13.5 inches) deep, and 9 cm (3.5 inches) tall. So, it does require quite a bit of shelf real estate.
The LEGO Icons Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Bridge (11385) is the second LEGO Star Trek set—but technically, it is the third because there was also the Type-15 Shuttlepod (40768) Gift with Purchase set.
