McLaren is going big with LEGO. But any McLaren fans would have agreed, LEGO McLaren ain’t complete without the McLaren F1. Well, a McLaren F1 LEGO does not have but it now has something equally defining: the McLaren P1 Hybrid. That’s right, my fellow automobile enthusiasts, the world’s most pioneering hybrid hypercar has been immortalized in LEGO.
McLaren Automotive and the LEGO Group have unveiled their latest collaboration, the LEGO Technic McLaren P1. The LEGO Technic McLaren P1 (42172) uses 3,893 pieces to recreate the modern legendary hypercar in a 1:8 scale.
The model features a unique serial number, a 7-speed gearbox with its shifter drum, a functional suspension system, a V8 piston engine, an adjustable rear wing, and opening dihedral doors with an advanced mechanism.
Developed by the LEGO Technic design team in close collaboration with McLaren Automotive, the model captures the essence of the original P1’s high-performance engineering and aerodynamic design.
The LEGO Technic McLaren P1 (42172) is presented in the automaker’s signature papaya orange (or as close as LEGO could replicate) and measures over 5.5 in. (14 cm) high, 23 in. (59 cm) long and 9.5 in. (25 cm) wide when completed.
If you have been following this blog, you will know that I am not always in agreement with Technic sports cars but this one though, I am sold.
But I will probably not buy it because this is made for adult fans of the LEGO set (i.e. 18+) and has a pretty grand sticker of US$449.99.
I believe that is the priciest LEGO Technic sports car set yet. But that’s by virtual of the number of pieces. We do note, however, that the price piece is 0.016 more than, say, the LEGO Technic Daytona SP3.
The LEGO Technic McLaren P1 (42172) is set to drop on August 01, 2024, if anyone’s interested.
