While some Japanese automakers are tiptoeing into the EV game, Nissan is charging ahead like a fully electrified samurai. The brand has been at it since 2010 with the LEAF, and now it’s doubling down with an all-new third-generation LEAF, a JUKE EV set for 2026, and the return of the Micra as an all-electric city car.
First up is the Micra EV, hitting the roads in 2025. Micra, the sub-compact class car, is also known as March in some regions. Designed in London at Nissan Design Europe, this compact ride will feature 40 kWh and 52 kWh battery options, delivering up to 248 miles (400 km) of range. Built on the AmpR Small platform, which it shares with the Renault 5, the Micra EV aims to keep things stylish, simple, and very much electric.
Then there’s the third-generation LEAF, also launching in 2025. Now built on Nissan’s CMF-EV platform, it promises a sleek aerodynamic design while sharing DNA with the Ariya. Production will remain in Sunderland, U.K., as part of Nissan’s EV36Zero project, which is turning the plant into a hub for sustainable EV production.
Nissan is also giving its e-POWER hybrid drivetrain a major upgrade. Since launching in 2022, nearly 250,000 e-POWER vehicles have been sold in Europe, and now it’s getting even more refined, efficient, and closer to a pure EV driving experience.
And then, the big one—the JUKE EV. The third-gen JUKE is going fully electric in 2026, drawing inspiration from Nissan’s Hyper Punk concept car. If the final product is anything like that futuristic, cyberpunk-esque design, it’s going to turn heads.
With Nissan pushing forward at full speed, the message is clear: if you’re still on the fence about EVs, they’ll have plenty of options to tempt you in the coming years, well, at least it is in the U.K., where Nissan happens to be the largest car maker in the country.
