You must be thinking, “Didn’t Porsche celebrate 75 years of Porsche in 2023?” It certainly did. But come on, nobody’s holding back on celebration. I mean, we celebrate just about anything, and for Porsche, it’s celebrating 75 years in Australia. That’s right, my friends. Porsche is technically a “senior resident” in Down Under.
Fun fact: Porsche, the marque, is as old as Australia’s independence (note: not the day it became a Federation in 1901).
To mark this milestone, Porsche Cars Australia has revealed four bespoke models at the Formula 1 Australia Grand Prix. Each car is specially themed, drawing inspiration from world-famous natural settings in Australia’s North, South, East, and West. The commemorative cars are Porsche’s way of flexing the unique details of Porsche’s Exclusive Manufaktur and bespoke Sonderwunsch options.
According to Daniel Schmollinger, CEO and Managing Director of Porsche Cars Australia, these four special cars symbolise the legacy and future of Porsche across the country. Each vehicle blends timeless Porsche design with regional identity, culture, lifestyle, and purpose. Best of all, customers can recreate these designs using the Porsche online configurator.
Go North: Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid
Representing Australia’s tropical north is the Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid finished in Paint to Sample Emeraldgreenmetallic. The colour mirrors the lush greenery of Queensland’s Daintree Rainforest and Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory.
The exterior is paired with 21-inch Panamera Exclusive Design wheels finished in Neodyme, drawing inspiration from the distinctive fan palms found in the rainforest. Inside, a Club Leather interior in Espresso reflects the rich earth that nourishes the region’s dense vegetation.
This sports sedan also features a 480-litre Porsche Roof Box with a payload capacity of up to 75 kilograms, turning the Panamera into a capable road-trip companion for adventures through Australia’s green wilderness.
Go East: Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo
Australia’s surf-rich eastern coastline inspired the Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. The car wears Porsche Paint to Sample Ipanemabluemetallic, a deep blue that evokes the Pacific waters surrounding Australia’s famous beaches.
The 21-inch Taycan Exclusive Design wheels feature Crayon aero blades that hint at marine life and coral formations beneath the ocean surface. Inside, the two-tone Black and Crayon leather interior reflects the contrast between warm beach sand and coastal shade.
Speed Blue interior accents add another ocean reference, representing the refreshing cool of the Pacific that helped shape Australia’s world-renowned surf culture.
Go South: Porsche Macan 4S
The dramatic cliffs and rugged coastlines of southern Australia inspired the Porsche Macan 4S. Paint to Sample Goldbronzemetallic mirrors the natural tones of the region’s coastal landscapes.
The 22-inch RS Spyder Design wheels finished in Vesuvius Grey reference the dolerite sea columns that rise from the waters around Tasmania’s Tasman Peninsula.
Inside, the Extended Leather Package in Black and Chalk reflects the limestone formations of South Australia’s Limestone Coast. Chalk Beige seat belts and a matching Sport Chrono dial echo the region’s pale rock formations, while orange seat centres and stitching mimic the coastal rocks and rugged shorelines along Victoria’s southern edges.
Go West: Porsche Cayenne S
Outback Western Australia served as the inspiration for the Porsche Cayenne S. Finished in Paint to Sample Ipanemabrown, the exterior reflects the ancient red earth of the vast Western Australian landscape, a region known for historic towns, dramatic rock formations, and indigenous rock art.
The 22-inch Exclusive Design Sport wheels finished in Black silk-gloss reference the dark vertical streaks of the famous Wave Rock formation.
This Cayenne S is also equipped with the Off-Road package, making it ready for the kind of terrain that defines the Australian outback. Inside, Bordeaux Red seat centres reflect the deep red tones of the region’s soil, while Mojave Beige accents on the compass display echo the pale sands of Broome’s Cable Beach.
Porsche’s Individualisation Showcase
Along with their Exclusive Manufaktur details, these cars also feature touches from Porsche’s Sonderwunsch individualisation program.
Highlights include ‘75 Years of Porsche in Australia’ vehicle keys painted to match each car’s exterior colour, bespoke illuminated door sill guards showing each vehicle’s cardinal direction, and customised interior floor mats embossed with ‘75 Years of Porsche in Australia’.
A Chance Encounter That Started It All
Porsche’s journey in Australia began with what could only be described as a lucky roadside encounter.
In 1951, Norman Hamilton was travelling through Austria while researching pump technology for Australia’s Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme. While driving across the Grossglockner Pass, he was overtaken by a silver sports car that caught his attention. The car was a Porsche development vehicle driven by German racing driver Richard von Frankenberg.
Both men stopped at the same inn in the next village and struck up a conversation. That conversation eventually led Hamilton to meet Ferdinand Porsche himself. A vehicle distribution deal was sealed with a handshake, and the first two Porsche sports cars for Australia were soon shipped to Melbourne.
The rest, as it is called, is 75 years of Porsche history in Australia.
Pricing for these bespoke commemorative models was not announced. Availability for replication through Porsche’s online configurator is already open.
