We have seen quite many collabs TWS earbuds but rest assured the STUMPE x Evangelion EVA-01 Open Ear Bluetooth Headset is unlike anything you have seen. It is not just another regular pair of earbuds with the iconic purple and green colorway. STUMPE, a Chinese maker of trendy, fashionable, collab earphones and headphones, has gone the way out to impress fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
For starters, it is not a pair of TWS earbuds; it is a pair of open-ear Bluetooth headsets that, when not in use, attaches to a super cool case. OK. It is not quite a charging case because there is no cover. This “case” is essentially a body of battery that charges the headset and is modeled after the back of the EVA Unit-01.
It is just about the coolest “case” we have seen. It gets even more interesting. The “back” features a socket which in the anime is where the umbilical cable plugs in to charge the bio-mecha. Even more interesting is that it has a custom USB Type C cable that mimics the look of the umbilical cable. Now, if that isn’t super cool, I don’t know what is.
The headset’s battery unit goes into the respective cradle as the earbud clasp to the side. The entire setup is given the signature purple and green colorway of Unit-01. The text “EVANGELION-01” can be found printed on each earbud. Very, very cool.
Beyond the oh-so-cool Unit-01 aesthetic, each headset is outfitted with a 60 mAh battery good for 6.5 hours of playback. The case aka the mid torso of Unit-01 packs a 350 mAh battery that affords up to 20 days of standby time.
The STUMPE x Evangelion EVA-01 Open Ear Bluetooth Headset benefits from Bluetooth 5.3 which provides up to 12 meters (40 feet) of wireless range. Each headset barely weighs anything at just 8.3g (0.3 oz.!). According to the listing, this little guy has noise cancellation, though it is not clear if it is active or passive. It only claims to have strong noise cancellation.
The headset is supported by a companion app that offers access to the EQ, AI assistance, earbuds loss prevention, automatic noise cancellation, and more.
The STUMPE x Evangelion EVA-01 Open Ear Bluetooth Headset does appear to be available outside of China. Last check, it is available from Chinese e-commerce retailers JD.com [CH] and Taobao.com for about 399 yuan (around 57 USD).
