We posted a handful of what if a certain automaker made this and that (like this one HERE). Well, I guess we don’t have to do that for Suzuki because, the Japanese marque already dreamed up some concepts for its all-new compact off-road, the 2019 Suzuki Jimny, and it will bring them to next month’s 2019 Tokyo Auto salon, along with a Suzuki Swift Sports Yellow Rev concept hot hatch. Clearly, the two Jimny concepts had our attention because, Jimny.
Speaking of Jimny, the last we posted about this, we were still clueless about the drivetrain, but we now know it is powered by a 1.5L petrol unit with a maximum output of 75 kW (100 HP) and 130 Nm (96 lb-ft), paired to a choice of 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic transmission and of course, part-time 4WD with Suzuki’s ALLGRIP PRO technology. Sadly, though, turbo is NOT on the menu – odd decision for an off-roader which could use the extra torque, but oh well…
Anyways, back to the concepts… they include a lovely pickup truck dubbed Jimny Sierra and a SUV called Jimny Survive. The latter looks like it may serve well as a base for a post-apocalypse vehicle. However, it is the pickup truck that had us going ga-ga. Jimny Sierra features faux wood side panels, wide fender flares, off-road knobby tires, a raised ride height, a quartet of LED spotlights mounted on a rollover bar out on the bed, and a Suzuki branding slapped on a retro front grille. The gold-ish paint job, the faux wood panels, white and chrome wheels has the unmistakable old school vibe.
The Jimny Survive concept, on the other hand, looks like a tweak of the existing Jimny, but bestowed with raise ride height, off-road knobby tires, caged headlights, subtle flared fender, diamond steel plates on all four corners, a roof rack/roll cage equipped with recovery boards, and a steel front bumper accompanied by a winch, two hooks and another diamond steel plate.
As mentioned earlier, Suzuki will also be bringing along a Suzuki Swift Sports Yellow Rev to the show which, at this point, looks like mere cosmetic tweaks. Hopefully, that’s not the case. The Suzuki Swift Sports deserves more oomph than 138 horses (though the torque should be ample).
In case in are wondering, 2019 Suzuki Jimny is already selling in Japan and the U.K. with a starting price of 1,458,000 Yen (around US$13,220) and £15,499 (or about US$19,700), respectively.
