Airbags are not just for automobiles. They exist on jackets and jeans for motorcyclists and, apparently, now on a phone case, too. However, the “airbag” on the TORRAS Q3 Air Pro for the iPhone 17 Pro series is not quite the kind of airbag you think it is. It doesn’t burst out when the phone falls. Instead, it is literally an airbag, like a bag with air.
TORRAS says the Q3 Air Pro is the world’s first phone case with a dual-layer airbag protection system. Why not just a bumper, you ask? Well, TORRAS thinks that a case that protects the phone’s cosmetic condition isn’t good enough. It needs to prevent the shock from a fall, and hence the airbags absorb the impact, thus providing protection inside and out.
The technology, called Air Duet, places sealed, dual-layer airbags along the top and bottom edges. During a fall, the outer airbag absorbs the initial impact before the inner layer disperses the remaining shock. Both layers then return to their original shape.
The transparent outer airbag exposes an orange inner layer and twin-ribbed structure, giving the case a sneaker-inspired appearance while making its protective construction visible. Very, very cool. I’d forgive the bulk for this look. Yes. I am superficial.
Moving on… the case further boasts a built-in magnetic stand that rotates through 360 degrees and flips through 180 degrees, supporting multiple viewing angles, wireless charging, and magnetic attachment. This is not just any magnet, btw. It is rated for 18N of magnetic force, which allows compatible phones to attach to suitable metal surfaces for hands-free navigation, calls, or recording.
Other features include a rear panel with improved resistance to sweat, dirt, and everyday wear, rock-inspired textures along the sides for added grip, and a microfiber-lined interior with a topographic pattern and the coordinates of Mount Everest.
