BlackBerry may be one with history, but its legacy still lingers today. Wait, what? You mean to say there are still phones with a physical QWERTY keyboard? Well, yes, and we have Unihertz to thank. The Chinese maker isn’t just known for quirky and rugged phones; it’s also unofficially carrying the torch for BlackBerry. Its latest hardware, the Unihertz Titan 2, is a nod to what was once the holy grail of business phones.
Unihertz took its superlative recreation of a classic QWERTY phone to Kickstarter, and the crowd has spoken. The campaign that just wrapped saw over 7,000 backers contributing a whopping 16,358,594 Hong Kong dollars to bring the product to life. That’s over 2 million American dollars, if anyone’s crunching numbers — which is a heck of a lot of money. So yes, smartphones with integrated physical keyboards are making a comeback. And this isn’t just nostalgia; it’s a keyboard phone reimagined for the 5G era.
It’s sleeker, lighter, more powerful, and get this: it’s a dual-screen phone. A feature that, even if the tech had existed back in BlackBerry’s fledgling days, would’ve been sneered at by suit-loving execs. The Titan 2 turns heads with its unusual 4:3 aspect ratio, a nearly square 4.5-inch primary display at 1,440 × 1,440 pixels. Around the back is a 2-inch secondary display (410 × 502 pixels), sharing space with dual cameras: a 50 MP main and an 8 MP telephoto with 3.4x zoom. Up front, you get a 32 MP selfie snapper.
Powering all this is MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300 (5G) chip built on a 4 nm process, backed by 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM, 512 GB UFS 3.1 storage, and a 5,050 mAh battery with 33 W fast charging. The Titan 2 keeps things fun with programmable red side buttons, NFC, Bluetooth 5.4, infrared, dual-SIM, fingerprint and facial recognition, Google Pay, Wi-Fi display, and yes, even FM radio. Oh, and it runs Android 15 out of the box.
The device measures 137.8 mm × 88.7 mm × 10.8 mm, tips the scales like a small brick, and isn’t exactly the handiest, but the sleek, blockish look does float my boat. During Kickstarter, it had a super early bird price of 229 USD, but now you can still order one unlocked for US$399.99. It works with major telcos worldwide, including SoftBank, Telstra, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Verizon, Singtel, and more.
Unihertz will be showcasing the Titan 2 at IFA 2025 (September 5–9) at Messe Berlin. You can find them at Booth 128 in Hall 6.2. In the meantime, you may want to check out more looks below.
