There are LEGO MOCs, and then there are massive LEGO MOCs that will make you do a double-take if they are even possible or real. The 5-foot-tall custom LEGO Technic Evangelion Unit-02, the 6-foot-long Emirates Airbus A380 LEGO MOC, and the 6-foot-tall custom LEGO Batcave with Wayne Manor above are examples of such creations, and now, the world of LEGO MOCs welcomes another: The Wizard’s Black Tower.
Created by LEGO model designer Alex Bonelli a.k.a. LegoMocLoc for the SteBrick MOC Masters Designers Series, the LEGO MOC The Wizard’s Black Tower is a minifigure-scale brick-built recreation of Saruman’s Orthanc Tower, the infamous black tower made of indestructible Númenórean stone in Isengard that later became the factory producing Uruk-hai.
Packing a mind-bending 36,219 pieces of original LEGO bricks, it towers at 237.3 cm tall and has a 49.6 cm by 49.6 cm footprint (that’s 93.4 inches or 7.79 feet tall, and 19.5 by 19.5 inches wide and deep), making the 2013 official LEGO set feel incredibly puny and underwhelming.
The set is modular, with 9 macro blocks, each featuring key scenes from Middle-earth. In other words, the sections are not empty real estate or Airbnb-ready rooms. These are actual room spaces, totally customizable, of course, and include the staircase, the main entrance, the dungeon and armory, the throne room and the Palantír chamber, the pantry and the dining hall, the grand library, the alchemy and wizardry room, the sleeping quarters as well as the trophy/relic hall, and, of course, the pinnacle.
The set further touts UV-printed LEGO tile plaques personalized with the model name and the exclusive copy number. And yes, this towering work of art is available to anyone willing to drop €7,650 (~US$8,863) for it. It is a limited-edition set, with only 50 sets available worldwide.
This is no Rebrickable set; it is a complete set that comes with the original LEGO elements required for the build and is supplied with an exclusive hardcover instruction book with a silver-embossed title. A premium, exclusive digital eBook (PDF format) is also included. SteBrick promises that the digital instructions for this set will not be sold separately to maintain its exclusivity.
The bags containing the LEGO bricks are divided by category and size to set the foundation for a stress-free and intuitive building experience.
LEGO MOC The Wizard’s Black Tower is now available from the SteBrick online store.
