LEGO has its brick-built NES. Apparently unwilling to let its rival monopolize console nostalgia, Mattel Brick Shop has partnered with Microsoft to recreate the original Xbox in bricks. Microsoft’s first console may not have the same old-school credentials as Nintendo’s 1983 machine, but the Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft Xbox Building Toy Kit should still hit OG Xbox gamers squarely in the nostalgia gland.
That’s not to mention that, with a whopping 3,509 pieces, it will make an impactful display piece that looks so close to the original console that it may throw your friends off.
Expect a lot of “Whoa… you still have the original console?” followed by “Can I play?”
Obviously not.
While this authentic replica of the first Xbox console cannot let you play games, it serves as a home to dioramas of three hit games: Psychonauts, Halo, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Each diorama includes 1-inch NanoWorld figures of iconic characters from the respective games. All told, there are 12 NanoWorld figures total across the three game dioramas.
That’s not all. Opening the console triggers the original Xbox opening sequence, while pressing the buttons on the included buildable Duke controller activates sound and light sequences for each diorama. Apparently, entering a specific cheat code on the buildable Duke unlocks an easter egg light sequence.
The Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft Xbox Building Set is available for pre-order as we speak for a grand US$324 on creations.mattel.com. It is also available for pre-order from Best Buy and on Amazon.com for US$329.99. It is scheduled to ship on or before October 16, 2026.
The Mattel Brick Shop Microsoft Xbox Building Set is the biggest Mattel Brick Shop set announced so far by piece count. It exceeds the brand’s other large builds, including the recent Skeletor’s Havoc Staff (1,098 pieces), Halo UNSC M12 Warthog (935 pieces), and Buildable Skeletor Bust (503 pieces).
