Not Wheels Mattel Creations x MSCHF Die-cast Car: Why Does It Feel Like A Murderer’s Car?

Not Wheels Mattel Creations x MSCHF Die-cast Car

We know how Hot Wheels die-cast vehicles include real-life rides, as well as fantasy vehicles. But here’s the thing. However realistic or outlandish Hot Wheels toy cars have not prepared us for this too-real, too-outlandish die-cast model released in collaboration with MSCHF. Then again, anything that involves MSCHF is never “normal”, if you know what I mean.

Anyhoo, behold the, well, ermmm, Not Wheels Mattel Creations x MSCHF Die-cast Collectible? I did not make up that name. That is the official product name. Mattel is right that this “super cool clunker” is an unconventional take on a traditional Hot Wheels die-cast. But why a beat-up car?

Well, according to Mattel/MSCHF, it is a celebration of the old beat-up cars many folks started out driving. But seriously, how it is broken and DOES NOT ROLL feels more like an abandoned murderer’s vehicle. I mean, it has all the traits of such a sinister vehicle including three (not four) mismatched wheels, a rusty wheel hub, a cracked windshield, parking tickets, and a seat belt hanging out of the side door.

If those are not enough, it even has zip ties on the bumper, red cellophane covering a broken taillight, and a blue tape “racing stripe”—which points to DIY repairs a murderer would do. No wait, I mean a poor college student would do.

This unusual diecast collectible comes presented in a classic Hot Wheel card with a blister, complete with the familiar Hot Wheels fire emblem but with the ‘MSCHF’ name instead of ‘Hot Wheels’. The blister card design is super fun too. It has labels like “USED FOR 2024”, “NOT TOTALED YET”, “CINDER BLOCK NOT INCLUDED”, and “HW NORMAL CARS”.

Seriously, I would not remove it from its packaging if I were you. Not that you and I have a chance of getting it. It was released on August 31 for 30 bucks and promptly sold out. Ugh. I am surprised it did but still, it felt sore to have missed this.
