Manning an outpost in a post-apocalyptic world is one of the most, if not the most, important tasks. Strangely, it is often left to extras in movies who almost always get killed in no time. Now, let’s be honest. When that happens, we all scream in disbelief. He or she had ONE job.
Well, you know what? Now you can put your money where your mouth is. Thankfully, not in an actual post-apocalyptic situation or at an actual outpost. You can show off your extraordinary (or lack thereof) outpost-manning skills in Outpost Simulator.
Developed by solo developer Mental Dreams from Türkiye and published by Ultimate Publishing, Outpost Simulator is a first-person game that combines base building, management, customer service, and survival. Yes, customer service. Well, it looks like there is no escaping this dreadful job of dealing with customers even after civilization collapses.
You start with an abandoned outpost and work toward turning it into a thriving settlement. Survivors arrive looking for food, shelter, and safety, and meeting their needs earns you money. You can then spend your hard-earned cash on new buildings, upgrades, and defenses.
Eventually, your humble outpost can have gardens, tents, power systems, water tanks, a pub, and even a radio station. You can also hire workers, deploy farming drones, and install automated turrets to help keep things running.
Of course, this wouldn’t be a proper post-apocalyptic game without someone trying to ruin your day. Raiders will attack your settlement, forcing you to defend it with rifles, mines, explosive traps, and even a gravity gun. The latter also doubles as a tool for moving supplies, making it useful for both logistics and violently expressing your displeasure.
When you’re not running your little wasteland empire, you can hop into a survival van to explore the open world, scavenge resources, rescue stranded survivors, and complete missions. The full game will also feature changing seasons, fluctuating prices, and increasingly dangerous enemies.
The free demo of Outpost Simulator has been available on Steam since August 21, 2026. It lets you experience the core gameplay, including building, defending your base, driving the survival van, and upgrading your equipment.
The full game is expected to launch in the first half of 2027. Until then, the demo should give you a pretty good idea of whether you have what it takes to run humanity’s last outpost or become that unfortunate extra who gets eliminated in the opening scene.
