If you have loads of money, and the Razer Boomslang reminds you of your early gaming days when it was a brand under Kärna LLC, then you may want to take a look at this “anniversary” edition Boomslang. That’s right. Boomslang is back, in the most confusing manner possible.
The confusion comes from the name Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition—which may suggest that, somehow, the timeline has gone out of sync. But it isn’t. This is not some Back to the Future II shit. We will clear that up in a bit.
Now, back to the Razer Boomslang 20th Anniversary Edition, which comes with a prerequisite: loads of money. How so? Well, it costs a mind-bending US$1,337. It also has a limited run of just 1,337 units. If your mind wandered off wondering what is up with the number 1,337, it is a nod to early gaming slang “l33t” (pronounced leet), short for “elite.” It comes from leetspeak, where letters are replaced with numbers or symbols (L → 1, E → 3, T → 7). It was used in the 2000s to describe skilled players, advanced tactics, or exclusive gear. Basically, the predecessor of Sweaty, Cracked, GOAT, and OP.
This one-time-release gaming mouse borrows the OG design but features a special transparent shell and the latest Razer gaming mouse tech. That includes a true ambidextrous form with PU leather buttons, Razer Optical Mouse Switches Gen-4, Razer Focus Pro 45K Optical Sensor Gen-2, Razer HyperPolling Wireless Technology, low-latency wireless communication, next-gen magnetic wireless charging, Razer Chroma RGB, and no fewer than eight customizable controls.
The charging dock is made of glass and also features RGB. It includes glass mouse feet, a collectible package that looks wrapped in PU leather, and an exclusive collector’s LED display frame showcasing every element of its internal design. Now that is one for the true gaming geek. This is peak gaming mouse flex.
Is it worth someone’s minimum wage? I do not know. I guess it is for nostalgia buyers with pockets as deep as the Mariana Trench.
Now, about that “20th Anniversary” branding. The Boomslang originally launched in 1999, when Razer was a brand under Kärna LLC. After Kärna LLC went bankrupt in the early 2000s, the Razer brand was revived by Min-Liang Tan and Robert Krakoff. Razer paid homage to the OG Boomslang in 2007 with a collector’s edition. It was not quite a 20th anniversary even then, but apparently, Razer is celebrating 20 years since that revival moment.
I know. It is complicated. The branding is confusing, the number makes partial sense, and the price makes even less sense. Technically, 20 years would be next year if we are counting from 2007. Last check, it is 2026. I am not in a rush to age another year.
Not that any of this matters. Even at this outrageous price for a mouse, it is sold out.
