That’s Not A Bong, It Is Sony’s New Candlelight Lamp Bluetooth Speaker

Sony LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker

What looks suspiciously like a Bong is actually Sony’s new LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker. The LSPX-S2 is the second Glass Sound Speaker following the LSPX-S1 introduced a couple of years ago, but this time, it is less silly looking – thanks to a little more curves. LSPX-S2 was announced on the 8th, but strangely, it was not Sony US website; instead, we found it on Sony UK.

It is not only the look that gets the much needed redesign; it now gets Hi-Res Audio support and Spotify Connect too. The look might have changed, it still begs the question: do we need a candlelight lamp/Bluetooth speaker hybrid? Well, this being the second iteration, it is likely that Sony think that the answer is ‘yes’… at least for the markets across the pond.

Anyways, the idea is to seamlessly blend the speaker into your home decor and providing some (romantic) illumination while it pumps out your favorite tunes. Sony LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker boasts Sony’s Advanced Vertical Drive technology, an audio reproduction technology that allows the speaker to reproduce 360-degree sound.

“The organic glass body itself vibrates after being tapped by the actuator under it to spread the sound vertically in a 360-degree direction. The organic glass tube tweeter has a wider surface (compared to conventional speakers) to create crystal clear sound with minimal loss of volume.”

Other details include built-in 35 mm mid-range driver, passive radiator, 11W peak output, 32-step brightness with two Candlelight modes (that actually flickers like a real candle), built-in WiFi, DLNA support, LDAC audio coding technology (for Hi-Res Audio transmission), pairing via Bluetooth or NFC One-Touch, Push & Play function (Spotify Connect), wireless multi-room support, and a rechargeable battery that offers up to 8 hours per charge.

It is not clear if the Sony LSPX-S2 Glass Sound Speaker will be landing in stateside, but what is clear is, it is hitting UK markets starting May 2019 and like its predecessor, it ain’t cheap, commanding a cool 550 quid (around US$700+). Now, that’s a lot a money to pay for a novelty speaker with built-in light function, is it not?
