You heard it was coming, and it finally is. Well, next June, that is. We are talking about Supergirl, specifically Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, and yes, this is one origin loyalists will want to pay attention to. This upcoming Supergirl movie goes back to the roots of the character established in the late 1950s during the Action Comics era.
In this version of the DC Supergirl origin story, Kara is technically older than Kal-El, even though she looks younger. Superman arrived on Earth as a baby and grew up here, while Kara was already a teenager when Krypton fell. Comic logic, folks.
Anyhoo, this new take on Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie, with a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. Kara Zor-El turns 23 and celebrates by traveling across the galaxy with her dog, Krypto. Somewhere along the way, things go very wrong, triggering what has been described as a murderous quest for revenge.
The full plot of the Supergirl film has not been revealed yet, but the newly released teaser trailer drops enough hints to spark plenty of speculation. We are not going to dissect it frame by frame here. That part is on you. Skip ahead and judge it for yourself.
Oh, I have to say this: I sense some Guardians of the Galaxy vibe in it.
