This is it. With the new Masterpiece line MPG, Takara Tomy is introducing what could be MP 4.0 Optimus Prime, dubbed the MPG-17 Optimus Prime Style Gen. “Style Gen.” is not the result of a goofy translation from Japanese. In the first teaser image, “Optimus Prime” is written in Japanese, followed by the English words “Style Gen.”
Optimus Prime Style Gen. is the next figure in the MPG series, following the black version of Super Ginrai, Nucleon Quest Super Convoy. Little is known about this still-elusive MPG figure. It’s unclear whether it will be CHUG-scale (an acronym for Classics, Henkei, Universe, and Generations), the standard modern Transformers toy scale, or if it will follow the Masterpiece scale. Hopefully, it’s the latter.
Takara Tomy describes the MPG-17 as the “next-generation, pinnacle Transformers series, with new interpretations in transformation difficulty.” It also boasts new proportions, details, mobility, poseability, “vehicle play, weapon play, and more.” The mention of “proportions” has some fans worried that it might be the size of the Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-60 Ginrai, the standard TF toy scale. Hopefully, that won’t be the case.
I have some speculation regarding “mobility”… I bet that it has rubber tires and front wheels that actually turn. But that’s just my guess. Anyhoo, we won’t know for sure until next Friday (April 4), when pre-orders for the figure start in Japan.
