A new Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece figure, the MP-60 Ginrai, was revealed yesterday in Japan. Along with the product reveal, the Transformers toys collector community was thrown into upheaval when Takara Tomy announced that the MP-60 Ginrai would be the last of its Masterpiece line.
That’s right, my friends. There will be no more Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece moving forward. The MP-60, released as part of the 40th anniversary celebration, is the 100th Masterpiece figure. Don’t raise your eyebrows. There are no 100 Masterpiece figures. 100 includes redeco/repaint and limited edition figures.
The MP-60 Ginrai is designed with toy colors and deco in line with the original toy release from the 80s. It will come with the Godmaster, along with a pair of guns. It will not have a trailer. If you want the trailer to make it the Super Ginrai, you have to look at the new MPG.
That said, after the MP-60, all Masterpiece figures will fall under the MPG line which started with the Transformers Raiden combiner introduced 2.5 years ago and only recently concluded. The MPG line of Autobot combiner Raiden has 6 members, MPG-01 to MPG-06, plus there are two more redeco figures, the MPG-07 Ginoh aka Dr. Yellow, and the MPG-08 Yamabuki.
That brings us to the new MPG announced along with the MP-60 Ginrai, the MPG-09 Super Ginrai. The MPG-09 Super Ginrai will rock a toon-accurate deco and colors, and it will come with a trailer that can be converted into a base as well as combined with Ginrai to become Super Ginrai.
It also includes a transformable Godmaster figure, plus two Super Ginrai head sculpts, 6 guns/cannons, a pair of blast effects, and two “Chokon energy” effect parts. It will come with a sticker sheet to recreate the toy look if you want to use the trailer on the MP-60 if that’s what you fancy.
Both the Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-60 Ginrai and Takara Tomy MPG-09 Super Ginrai are set to be released on December 28, 2024, for 24,200 yen and 46,200 yen (around US$158 and US$302), respectively.
