If you thought the MPG-09 Super Ginrai was the ultimate Prime evolution, think again. Takara Tomy has rolled out yet another premium collectible, the MPG-16 Nucleon Quest Super Convoy—nothing says “unstoppable Autobot leader” like getting yet another makeover.

This isn’t just a simple repaint. OK. It is but hear me out. The Nucleon Quest Super Convoy [JP] ditches the classic red-and-blue for a sleek black-and-silver look that screams “I listen to synthwave and bench press Decepticons.” As always, it transforms from robot to truck, while the trailer doubles as a base—every leader needs a proper command center.
Like the MPG-09, this big guy is loaded with accessories. It boasts not one, not two but three superconducting rifles, a Power Master, a tiny pilot figure, an extra head, shoulder pieces, and even blast effects. It’s basically a toy that comes with its own toy collection.
Because it is based on the MPG-09, the posability is off the charts. Takara Tomy really surprises collectors this time around. Anyhoo, this Convoy can hit all the heroic stances or collapse into an exhausted kneel when he realizes he still hasn’t defeated Megatron after 40 years. And for authenticity, it includes Japanese-language instructions and a character card, perfect for proving true collector status.
For the privilege of owning this stylish bot, be ready to part with 44,000 yen [JP] in Japan or US$264.99 in the U.S. Pre-orders close March 5, 2025 (by Hasbro, in the U.S.), with shipments expected around March 1, 2026—plenty of time to decide where exactly this version of Convoy will fit in your ever-growing army of Optimuses. (Optimi? Whatever, you get the point.)
