Studio Series 86 Gives Optimus Prime and Megatron the Battle-Damaged MTMTE Treatment

Transformers Optimus Prime and Megatron Action Figures

What? You need a screen-accurate Optimus Prime in his soon-to-be-killed-by-Megatron look from The Transformers: The Movie? And oh, you don’t need the oh-so-unnecessary, clunky trailer like most of us? Wait. You also need a badly damaged Megatron to play out the iconic Optimus Prime death scene in the Battle of Autobot City? If it’s a yes to all of the above, then good news: Hasbro has heard you.

I know. Some of you must be going, “Uh oh, here we go again.” Well, here we go again indeed. The Studio Series 86 Optimus Prime has been given the MTMTE treatment and, somehow, downgraded from Commander Class to Leader Class, much to the dismay of fans who live for Optimus Prime’s trailer. I guess one man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Prime isn’t alone. Megatron also gets the MTMTE refresh, complete with battle damage sustained from his punches traded with the Autobot leader.

Battle-damaged Optimus Prime stands 7.25 inches (18 cm) tall and converts from robot to semi truck and back in 40 steps. He features a damaged battle mask, mangled antennae, cracked windscreen chest, cracked shoulder, damaged ribs, and a punctured grille and abdomen.

A supplied piece of Autobot City debris can be plugged into the torso to recreate the infamous scene. Some of the damage is molded and painted, while the cracks on the right shoulder and windscreen are printed. Articulation is solid, making him equally suitable for dramatic display poses or action-packed play. Accessories include the debris stake, his signature ion blaster, and the Matrix of Leadership.

Megatron, which is based on the Studio Series 86 figure launched last year, also shows up battle-scarred. Like in the animated film, he has damage on his helmet, face, and chest, complete with a mangled Decepticon logo. For some reason, I am digging this low-key damage approach. He looks significantly less wrecked than Optimus, which is screen-accurate. Most of the damage appears to be molded and painted. The biggest flaw, of course, is that he does not transform into a Walther P38 pistol. What a shame.

The Transformers Studio Series MTMTE Collection The Transformers: The Movie Leader Class Megatron stands 8.5 inches (21.5 cm) tall and converts from robot to tank in 54 steps. He comes with five accessories, including his fusion cannon, back barrel, beam saber, and a pair of blasters.

Both the Transformers Studio Series MTMTE Collection The Transformers: The Movie Leader Class Optimus Prime and Megatron are part of the MTMTE Collection, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the fan-favorite animated film. Both figures are set to drop on April 1, 2026, priced at US$59.99 each. Pre-orders for Optimus Prime are already sold out on HasbroPulse.com, while Megatron is still available—probably for reasons we already know.
