Well, it took a while. But the folks behind the famed Onewheel finally have a new ride. This time, they’re going with two wheels. Unveiled last November was a brand-new product called Antic Bikes. As the name suggests, it is an actual bike. However, what the name did not tell you is that it is a mini-bike.
Inspired by the gas-powered mini-bikes of the ’70s, the Antic Mini-bike also has tiny wheels, but it is electrically powered. It has a frame that resembles those of the ’70s mini-bikes, but it is crafted from 6061 aluminum, which is much lighter and impervious to rust.
With a similar frame design, the electronics and battery packed into the floorboard, and power coming from a hub motor, it leaves a lot of room for the ultra-minimalistic aesthetic. It is probably the most minimalistic two-wheeler since the Stator.
Interestingly, despite leaving a “gaping hole,” Antic Bikes has not offered a storage solution like ANY did with its larger, full-fledged bike. Not sure if it’s a missed opportunity or if there are some other concerns that prevented Future Motion from doing so.
Antic Bikes’ reimagining of the classic mini ride is, however, not identical in size; they did make it a little bit bigger, thus allowing it to be ridden by people over 6 feet tall.
An Antic bike, being born out of a company that is all about balancing on one wheel, is, of course, fully capable of doing so. That’s right. It does wheelies, too, and apparently, anyone can do it without becoming part of a fun but unfortunate compilation video on TikTok.
All you have to do is pull the front end up, and it locks in. In theory, you can pretty much wheelie throughout the ride if you want.
I don’t believe Antic Bikes has shared what’s under the hood—or, in this instance, inside the wheel. Neither was the battery capacity specified. However, the official words are that it has a top speed of 35 mph, and you get 12–28 miles out of the base model, while the Long Range model gets you 24–50 miles.
There is also a Long Range+ model with the same extended range and upgraded Performance Treaded tires. All models come with an iOS and Android app to customize the ride experience.
Antic Bikes are available now for US$2,100 for the base model. Add US$600 (US$2,700) for the Antic Long Range or US$800 (US$2,900) for the Antic Long Range+.
