Barbie Loves the Ocean Doll by Mattel

Barbie Loves The Ocean from Mattel is a new line of Barbie Dolls and the first’s first fashion doll collection that is made from 90% recycled plastic. To celebrate this, Mattel has partnered with Whalebone Magazine to showcase the new dolls in a way never seen before.

The dolls from this new line starred as the model of a couple of prints, photographed by renowned diver, Kimi Werner and surfer, Gigi Lucas. The prints, if anyone’s interested, can be purchased from whaleboneprintshop.com for US$150-US$200.

They are not cheap, but it will be for a good cause. The proceeds from the sale will go directly to Ocean Conservancy, a nonprofit environmental advocacy group.

The new Barbie Loves the Ocean Doll by Mattel is just the beginning. Mattel aims to achieved 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic materials across all its products and packaging by 2030.

Anyhoo, plastic parts are made from 90% plastic sourced from within 50 kilometers of waterways in areas that lack formal waste collection systems. Why just 90%? Well, because, doll head and accessories like the shoes, tablet and beach lantern are not made of those plastics.

Meanwhile, the Barbie Loves the Ocean Doll by Mattel collection is available now with a starting price of US$9.99.
