Infinity Studio is best known for its statues, but it is also known for poseable figures, a.k.a. action figures. Now, it has taken its alloy-articulated “Heavy Mecha” series into Tokyo-3 territory, starting with Evangelion Unit-01 from the Neon Genesis Evangelion series.
Drawing on the technical know-how gained from collectibles like the Angel Force Mia 1/3 figure, the new Infinity Studio Evangelion Unit-01 Action Figure also features a rubber-wrapped alloy skeleton. The highlight has to be the joints, which are virtually invisible thanks to the rubber coverings that conceal them. This allows Infinity Studio to recreate the massive, organic, cybernetic organism restrained by armor, as seen in the anime series. Not all joints are covered, though; its three-axis ankle joints remain exposed. We heard the “rubber” used is TPE material.
Speaking of massive, this figure is huge, though not Mia-huge, towering at 36 cm (14.2 inches) tall and weighing in at a hefty 860 g, or 1.9 lbs. It is apparently designed with a low center of gravity and reportedly has excellent stability, which Evangelion figures notoriously do not have. That’s the price of having heels for feet. Moreover, it has magnets in its feet to further ensure stability when placed on the supplied metal display base.
It is not the tallest Evangelion action figure, though. There’s MENG’s model kit, which is 45 cm tall, and the DYNACTION Evangelion Unit-01, which stands 40 cm tall. How this version stands out is clear: its organic appearance and the alloy structure within. Though I am skeptical of anything made of rubber, which can deteriorate over time—even if you don’t touch it.
This figure may not be for purists, IMHO. Whereas the DYNACTION and many others faithfully recreate the biomechanical weapon’s appearance in the series or movies, this one is subtly stylized. In return, you get details the anime did not show.
There is multi-layered outer armor with industrial-style grilles on the cheeks and cooling vents on the back. It has metallic purple armor, which is achieved with layered matte finishes instead of pastel purple. Meanwhile, the green sections are fluorescent and glow under UV light. Metal is not limited to the structure. The forehead horn is metal, too.
In the area of poseability, the figure rocks a three-section back, which allows the torso to bend forward at a nearly 90-degree angle. It can do high kicks—above its head, we hear—and its knees bend up to 160 degrees. It has an opening mouth, of course, because it needs to go berserk every once in a while. Infinity Studio’s take on the articulated EVA-01 features illuminated eyes.
The umbilical cable comes standard, and it attaches magnetically to the back. It is also supplied with not one but two entry plugs. There is a shorter version that goes completely into the entry-plug tract and a longer one to simulate a half-inserted entry plug.
Expected accessories include a 50 cm (19.7 inches) long Lance of Longinus constructed of alloy, a Pallet Rifle, and a folding Progressive Knife. Speaking of which, the shoulder pylons can open to recreate the knife-deployment action. Also included are six pairs of interchangeable hands, the aforementioned NERV launch-bay display base, and a fishbone-style support stand.
It will be released in Q2 2027 for 1,380 yuan in China, or about US$320 in global markets. Pre-orders are already underway in China, as well as through various toy retailers in other markets. We noted that Big Bad Toy Store is accepting pre-orders, too. The price is US$334.99.
