Batman has had many video games. Serious ones. Dark ones. Brooding ones. Games where he stares at criminals long enough for them to confess out of discomfort. But LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is doing something slightly different. It is trying to be all Batmen at once—you know, kind of like the Batman version of Everything Everywhere All at Once… except I would call it Every Batman Everywhere All at Once. 😄
Revealed alongside a developer diary from TT Games, Legacy of the Dark Knight is being pitched as the “definitive Batman experience.” Which sounds like marketing talk until the Batcave shows up as a literal construction project that grows with you over the course of the story. Yes, really! And, oh boy, am I so looking forward to building an entire Bat-nest from scratch. Never mind that it makes no engineering sense that a huge manor can sit atop a hollowed-out Earth.
You start with what is basically a hole under Wayne Manor. A damp, bat-occupied hole. Then, gradually, it becomes the Batcave everyone knows: trophy displays, suit vaults, gadget benches, and what looks suspiciously like the world’s most expensive parking garage that I bet Jay Leno will be jealous of.
Speaking of suits, the game pulls capes and cowls from across Batman history. Bronze Age. Batman ’89. Zero Year. Even Zur-En-Arrh shows up, which I swear someone at TT Games has a thing for ultimate chaos. The Batcomputer is also playable (yes, really, again!), which raises questions nobody asked, but everyone is happy to accept.
Vehicles are getting the same treatment. The Batmobile from The Batman (which is one of the best Batman flicks in recent times, IMHO). The 1966 TV version. The Tumbler. The Bat-Pod.
The gameplay brings more gadget upgrades and combat options, including Concussive Batarangs that scatter enemies and a Batclaw upgrade that turns criminals into spinning LEGO projectiles, which feels exactly right for a crime-fighting method that involves throwing criminals around as LEGO pieces.
All of this unfolds inside an open-world Gotham City, with collectibles, upgrades, allies to outfit, and WayneTech chips to track down through the Batcomputer like a billionaire’s version of spring cleaning.
In short, Legacy of the Dark Knight looks like Batman’s entire career condensed into one brick-built playground. Become Batman. Defend Gotham. Expand your cave. And yes, apparently unwind afterward with Bat-pinball. And, right. All these are sprinkled with the LEGO/TT Games brand of humor.
And one more thing, in what could be the ultimate collaboration between the toymaker and the DC superhero franchise, the game presents an interesting and unique perk: build at home and get in-game rewards. In other words, you can unlock exclusive in-game content with select LEGO Batman sets that will be released by LEGO. Well, folks, in-game purchases have officially crossed over into the physical world. What a time to be alive!
The LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is set to release on May 22, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and on PC via Steam and Epic Games. Nintendo Switch 2 users are not left out. Though, the launch date is to be announced. You are welcome to add to your wishlist; however, you can pre-order it now on Amazon.com if so desired. Meanwhile, the books are open for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and for Steam and Epic.
The game is offered in two flavors: Standard and Deluxe, and in the case of consoles, it is further offered as a hard copy and a digital version. You can secure a copy now from the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Both the hardcopy and digital versions for the consoles are also available to order on Amazon.com.
The standard edition includes the full base game, with “The Dark Knight Returns” Batsuit as a pre-order incentive. Meanwhile, the Deluxe version is loaded. It includes the full base game, the Legacy Collection, which includes the Arkham Trilogy Pack, the Batman Beyond Pack, and Party Music Pack. It also includes the Mayhem Collection, which lets you play as The Joker and Harley Quinn with all-new story missions, and of course, Mayhem Mode. It also comes with the Sinister Pack. Pre-order incentive includes 3-day early access and the “The Dark Knight Returns” Batsuit.
Oh, you can also sign up for a WB Games account and get a free Golden Age Batsuit. If you sign up, the suit will be yours in-game once you connect using the registered account. That’s a pretty sweet deal, if you ask me.
