Pl8ty Is An 80s Walkman Style Bluetooth Speaker In Which Your Smartphone Is The “Cassette Tape”

Pl8ty Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Last year, Sony disappoints us with a 40th anniversary Walkman that does not even look like the portable music player that started it all. But fret not, my nostalgic bug-bitten friends because, the Pl8ty Portable Bluetooth Speaker will have you covered.

Wait, what? It is not a replica of the iconic Walkman, is it? It is not, but it sure nailed the look of the legendary cassette players of the 80s. Lovely. Even more lovely is, it has a “cassette tape deck.”

But instead of cassette tape, you insert your smartphone inside with the music app of your choice on. Close the lid, and then hit the physical play button and you got yourself a very nostalgic music player that pumps music from the built-in 2.1 active drivers.

For even more authentic feel, there are buttons for control the music, including fast-forward, rewind and pause. There’s also a wheel for tweaking the volume.

It is not just a Bluetooth speaker, though; the PI8ty can function as a “Walkman” too. Just plugged in your favorite headphones into the 3.5 mm audio jack and voila! a “Walkman” just like those found in the 80s.

An integrated clip lets you wear the PI8ty on your belt like what folks did in the 80s did. The Pl8ty may look like an 80s relic, but at its heart, it is as modern as it can gets.

It boasts an input auxiliary jack for hooking up with non-Bluetooth source, Bluetooth 5.0+EDR connectivity, and a 3,200 mAh lithium-ion battery, rechargeable via the USB-C port, that also doubles as a power bank to charge your smartphone.

Pl8ty is a creation of Swiss musicians Jonathan Fiorentini and Ernesto Londino, and it can be had by pre-ordering it on Kickstarter with a pledge of 93 CHF or more (or about US$102).
