If there’s a company that treats missed opportunities as part of its marketing norm, that would be Sony. When it celebrated the Walkman’s 40th anniversary, it did not reproduce its famous original Walkman. Instead, it served up a special-edition digital music player with anniversary branding, a retro case, and special packaging.
Fast forward to 2026, and it has the opportunity to collaborate with one of the biggest IPs in the world: Hello Kitty, for a limited-edition headphone collection. And guess what? As far as the cans are concerned, there is zero Hello Kitty on them. The character treatment is limited to the exclusive collaboration merchandise. No image of the world’s famous mouthless (not) cat on the cans.
Not even a little bow on an earcup. Come on, Sony.
Anyhoo, the Sony x Hello Kitty collection brings together three wireless headphone models: the flagship WH-1000XM6, the midrange WH-CH730N, and the entry-level WH-CH530, in selected pink and black colorways. Each comes bundled with an exclusive Hello Kitty carrying case or pouch and a matching tote bag, with tote designs varying by model.
To be fair, the accessories are pretty adorable. The character-shaped headphone pouch has Hello Kitty’s ears and signature bow, while embroidered details give the fabric merchandise something more substantial than a printed logo. I can see why fans would want these. I just wish the thing you actually wear received some of that attention.
There is a practical upside, of course. You get established Sony headphones without committing to wearing a character on your head. That may appeal to someone who wants their Hello Kitty obsession to emerge only when they put the headphones away. Personally, if I am buying a Hello Kitty collaboration, I want the Hello Kitty part where people can see it.
The headphones themselves offer three different levels of commitment. The WH-1000XM6 supplies Sony’s flagship noise cancellation, while the foldable WH-CH730N offers noise cancellation and up to 50 hours of battery life with it enabled. The WH-CH530 skips that feature but promises up to 55 hours of listening.
Now, about getting your hands on them. As of October 11, 2026, Sony’s U.S. signup page still lists the collaboration as coming this holiday season. The announcement places U.S. pre-orders later in the holiday season, exclusively through Sony Store and in limited quantities. I could not find confirmed U.S. bundle prices or a specific ordering date.
Singapore is already taking pre-orders. The WH-1000XM6 bundle is currently listed at S$609, down from S$749, with shipping from the end of October. The WH-CH730N costs S$249, while the WH-CH530 goes for S$149, both shipping from mid-November.
So, yes, Hello Kitty fans are getting a Sony headphone collection. You will just have to take the headphones off and pack them away to show which collection you bought.
