Apple did it again. The company has introduced a seemingly regular object and assigned it a price that instantly makes you pause and reassess your life choices. And yes, “ultra premium” is relative. Nineteen bucks for a cleaning cloth still haunts me, as it should. Anyhoo, Apple now wants you to carry your iPhone in the ultimate designer fashion with the Apple iPhone Pocket. It is stylish, it is artsy, and it absolutely knows it costs more than it reasonably should.
This pocket is the result of a collaboration between Apple and Issey Miyake, so it is not going to be a knitted pouch pretending to be couture. It features a 3D-knitted structure inspired by Issey Miyake’s “a piece of cloth” concept. The material stretches to accommodate any iPhone, even if you insist on using a chunky case. It can hold other pocketable items too. I would personally avoid testing how far it can stretch, unless you enjoy living dangerously.
The ribbed textile lets you sneak a look at your display while keeping the phone secure. You can carry it by hand, tie it to your bag, or wear it on your body like a minimalist fashion statement. Issey Miyake infused it with the brand’s iconic pleat aesthetic, while Apple brought its obsession with clean geometry and universality. Together, they created a pocket that feels like it wants to be both a fashion accessory and a gallery piece.
Crafted in Japan, the iPhone Pocket arrives in several colors across two strap lengths. The short strap version comes in eight colors, and the long strap in three. It lands on November 14 in select Apple Stores and online. The short strap design retails for 149.95 US dollars, and the long strap design goes for 229.95 US dollars.
