This USB-C Cable Disguises Itself as an Extension Cord

Matty Extension-C Cables USB-C Cable

If you like novelty products such as the oversized face mask bag, or accessories that disguise charging cables as a VGA connector, a set of RCA cables, or a 2-pole power plug appeal to you, or you just love messing with people’s heads, then Extension-C Cables by Unnecessary Inventions are for you.

Created by Matty, the man behind Unnecessary Inventions, Extension-C Cables are USB-C cables disguised as extension cords. Instead of going slim and small for the overmold (a.k.a. housing) and the strain relief boot, they have chunky molded ends, complete with ridged details for the unmistakable plug shape. However, in place of prongs and receptacle, they have a USB-C connector on each end.

Each cable measures 10 feet (3.05 meters) long and supports up to 60 W charging and up to 480 Mbps data transfer. Is it practical? Absolutely not. But is it cool? It sure as hell is. If you want yet another thing for people to talk about, this would be it. As a boon, because of its unusually chunky size, it will never disappear into the usual cable clutter.

Along with perks, it has drawbacks, too. Because of its mega-sized overmold, it is not compatible with all phone cases. So do take note of this when buying.

Speaking of buying, yes, it is available to buy from Matty’s web store for US$33. It is available in three cool colors: black, orange, and green.
