Super7 Transformers ReAction: The Ark Playset. Ermmm… What Playset?

Super7 Transformers ReAction: The Ark Playset

When a toy is called a “playset,” you’d expect some level of playability like the Eternia playset. Having said that, I don’t see how a so-called “playset” with just a backdrop/diorama and two action figures qualifies as a playset. Such is what Super7 is offering with the Transformers ReAction: The Ark Playset anyway.

The set, recently listed on Walmart’s website, comes with an orange-brown rocky base and a cardboard backdrop. On one side of the backdrop, there’s the iconic scene of the Ark embedded in the foot of a volcano, as seen in the original cartoon series. On the other side is retro artwork from the G1 toy packaging.

The set includes two re-released ReAction figures: Optimus Prime, Megatron, and… just kidding! There’s no ‘and’. Those are it. I know, right? It hardly feels like a playset, in my opinion. I guess Super7 assumes fans already have other ReAction figures to complete the setup. Honestly, if they could, they’d probably sell just the backdrop and base separately, though I suspect they know no one would bite it.

On the plus side, it does offer collectors who haven’t yet dived into the Transformers ReAction collection a chance to get started. Despite my complaints, this set does make for a decent backdrop—assuming you don’t want to print one yourself using a 3D printer and a regular color printer. Oops, I guess that works too.

If you are down, do note that the set takes up quite a bit of space. It measures 13.78 x 12.00 x 14.37 inches (around 35 x 30 x 36 cm). I’d imagine if you could get a display case that fits the playset perfectly, it could make for a lovely setup for the rest of your ReAction Transformers figures.

The Super7 Transformers ReAction: The Ark Playset is available for pre-order during Walmart’s Collector-Con on October 17, 2024, at 1900 hours PST, for US$75.
