Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa
nspired by America's Cup racing yachts, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa packs a bespoke carbon-fiber aero package capable of generating 140 kg of downforce at 300 km/h. Only 10 examples exist, and every one of them was spoken for before most enthusiasts knew the car existed.

Most automotive collaborations involve a special paint color, a few badges, and a press release trying very hard to convince you the partnership makes sense. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa takes a slightly different approach. It is still a collaboration, but this one actually brought engineers from a high-performance sports sedan and an America’s Cup sailing team into the same room.

To be fair, Alfa Romeo is not the first automaker to venture into nautical territory. Mercedes-AMG famously spent years partnering with Cigarette Racing Team to produce a series of increasingly outrageous high-performance powerboats. The Luna Rossa, however, is not about taking the fight to the water. Instead, Alfa Romeo brought sailing technology ashore.

The result is the most aerodynamically aggressive Giulia Quadrifoglio ever built.

The Luna Rossa was unveiled earlier this year as the first vehicle born from Alfa Romeo’s partnership with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team ahead of the 38th America’s Cup. Production is limited to just 10 examples worldwide, and all ten found owners before most enthusiasts even knew the car existed.

While the standard Giulia Quadrifoglio is hardly lacking in performance, Alfa Romeo decided to make this version stickier. A bespoke carbon-fiber aerodynamic package adds revised front-end elements, dedicated side skirts, underbody components, and a prominent rear wing. Together, the package generates up to 140 kg (309 lb) of downforce at 300 km/h (186 mph), roughly five times the aerodynamic load of a standard Quadrifoglio.

Visually, the Luna Rossa takes inspiration from the team’s AC75 racing yacht. The body wears a two-tone finish with a black hood, roof, and rear section contrasted against a grey iridescent exterior. Red Alfa Romeo logos provide a subtle nod to the racing heritage shared by both brands.

The sailing influence continues inside. Bespoke Sparco seats feature patterns and textures inspired by the flotation gear worn by Luna Rossa’s crew, while sections of the dashboard incorporate material from an actual sail used by the team’s 2024 America’s Cup yacht. It is not every day you find boat parts in a high-performance Italian sports sedan.

Power comes from Alfa Romeo’s familiar 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 producing around 520 horsepower. The engine remains untouched, which is probably for the best considering it was already one of the highlights of the Giulia Quadrifoglio. The focus here is on airflow rather than additional horsepower.

Most recently, the Luna Rossa completed testing at Alfa Romeo’s historic Balocco Proving Ground, where engineers validated the car’s aerodynamic package and high-speed behavior before its appearance at Luna Rossa’s base in Cagliari, Sardinia.

Then again, when you build only ten cars, and they are all sold before delivery, you can afford to spend a little extra time making sure the wind behaves itself. As before, it is unlikely that you and I are among the owners, but hey, there’s no stopping any of us from learning more, right?
