love collecting cute, arty stuff including vinyl figurines? then you should be familiar with vinyl collectibles such as bearbrick, munny, dunny et cetera. physically, these vinyl figurines look the same but what set each of them apart is the awesome graphics that each toy sports. that said, we want to introduce you to a whole new world of collectibles: the Blimpus. Blimpus differs with the rest of the collectibles in two major ways: first, it is not a solid vinyl – it is an inflatable PVC vinyl canvas and second, it comes as a flat blank canvas which makes creating design much easier. first it was the CEO of the pineapple company being immortalized as an action figure, but then things got a little ‘touchy’ and it was removed, much to the disappointment of all pineapple fans. now the inventor of ‘poking’ is the newest victim of this unofficial immortalization. this is no Madame Tussauds’ wax figure, but this 7-inch action figure, sporting the trademark casual brown sweat shirt, worn jeans and a pair of Adidas sandals, does resembles the poking inventor, albeit sporting bigger head. though, not as stunning as the pineapple CEO action figure, which is still our all time favorite (the ninja version, included). things that marketeers are willing to embarked on to make sure consumers are getting in the swing with their products. case in point: a Transformer 3D masks in the guised of either Optimus Prime or Bumble Bee with working Real-D 3D lenses integrated into them is making their way to the stores. the masks are the results of the collaboration between toy giant Hasbro and Real-D, in hope that movie-goers will have a more immersive 3D experience while catching Transformer 3 this July. it will be a ‘half-face’ mask, thus making sure you still can enjoy your popcorn while you are at the movie. the masks will go on sale this May and cost $9.99 a pop, which you can reuse it for most 3D movies. oh, did i mention that its for kids only? what a downer, isn’t it? i was so looking forward to it.
ahead of Thor – the movie release this May, Hasbro wants you to wield this mighty Thor Lightning Hammer and calls upon the rain, wind and lightning. well, i’m just kidding, i made that up but the part about the hammer is real. however, you will not be able to call upon the power of the nature with this hammer, except if you consider the flashing lights and thundering sound effect as ‘lightning’. while you may not have the supernatural power of the godly son, you can have his hammer, ermmm, albeit being a toy version but with the additional capability of launching a miniature missile at your enemy. launching a projectile is not an extraordinary feat but hey, Thor’s Mjoinir hammer can’t do that, isn’t it?
the Hasbro Thor Lightning Hammer cost $19.99 a pop and is available for pre-order at Hasbro Toy Shop.
(image credit: Epic Weapons) Dead Space Plasma Cutter full-size replica | from US$219.99 | www.epicweapons.com
i’m not a huge fan of Dead Space but these Plasma Cutter replicas from Epic Weapons are too beautiful to give them a miss. the first is the Timson Tools 211-V Plasma Cutter which comes with its own displayable carry case and includes a 3.7-volt rechargeable battery. it features a working trigger when activated reflects the signature 3-blast spot for you to line up your target. fortunately, this weapon doesn’t really slice people up. the Timson Tools Plasma Cutter measures 17-inches long by 3-inches wide by 11-inches tall and weighs 2.5 lbs (about 1.1-kg).
the second is the Isaac Clarke Plasma Cutter from Dead Space 2 which measures 17-inches long by 3-inches wide by 11-inches tall and weighs 2.5 lbs (about 1.1-kg). quite a handful and is supposedly the original size as used by the in-game character Isaac Clarke in Dead Space 2. as with the Timson Tools’ item, it includes a 3.7-volt rechargeable battery and features a working trigger which activates the signature 3-blast spot for user to align with his potential victim. is also features both horizontal and vertical cutting modes and will ship with a displayable carrying case.
both replicas are available this March and are available for pre-order at Entertainment Earth store for $219.99 and $239.99 for the Timson Tools Plasma Cutter and Isaac Clarke Plasma Cutter, respectively.
now that Little Big Planet 2 has been officially launch, why not get a Sackboy action figurine to celebrate this joyous occasion? this time round, the lovable Sackboy is in a computer outfit, complete with a dangling non-functioning two-pin electrical plug. this officially licensed product with posable arms, legs and head is constructed of textured painted plastic. Sackboy Computer Gear comes in two sizes: the 3-inch tall figurine and the limited edition 6-inch figuring. the 6-inch item is limited to just 10,000 units worldwide. in case you are wondering, the monitor has clear plastic protecting Sackboy’s head. 3-inch and limited edition 6-inch Sackboy Computer Gear retails for £4.99 and £12.99 respectively and are available over at Firebox.
remember the golden gun that was assembled from a cigarette case, lighter, cufflink and a pen in the James Bond movie, The Man With The Golden Gun (MGM, 1974)? here’s a golden opportunity for James Bond fans to lay your their hands on a replica item when it goes under the hammer on January 20, 2011. to be auctioned by Hansons Auctioneers, the golden gun replica is expected to fetch between £1,000 and £1,500. this solid gold plated replica pistol comes complete with a gold bullet with ‘007’ written on it and can be assembled just like the original one featured in the movie.
i am impressed by the solid gold plating but not the gun. while the idea of assembling a pistol out of everyday item could be a novel idea back in the 70s, i still think the gun looks a bit off. so this item is strictly for die-hard James Bond fans. perhaps, we could take it apart and use the different item separately? if the individual items are indeed functional… but i guess the cufflink should at least works.
i have a penchant for beautiful and sci-fi stuff. even i have not played the game Portal, i was totally captured by the Portal Gun replica by graphic designer and replica props hobbyist, Harrison Krix. i spend many hours admiring this work of art and wishing that i could be at the Child’s Play charity auction to have my bid on it. alas, it was just a dream which could not be realized.
the Portal Gun, if you’re not aware, is a gun which you use to port from Orange to Blue Portal and vice versa. well, porting is still not a reality yet and hence, the replica Portal Gun won’t allow you to be ported to anywhere but as a consolation, it can “fire” both Blue and Orange lights (portal’s existence is via your own imagination). this is as close as you can get to a Portal Gun.
it will be auction off in the coming Child’s Play Annual Charity Dinner Auction, to be held in Seattle on December 7th. if you’re looking at chance of getting this, i say – tough luck as the tickets for the fundraising dinner has already been sold out. now that’s not such a good news isn’t it?
