Hitachi has recently launched a new cordless stick vacuum in select Asian regions that sets it apart from its competitors. Where most Chinese brands chose to pack everything into a stick vacuum, i.e., both wet and dry functions, making them a tad unwieldy, the new Hitachi PV-XHW4P Wet & Dry Cordless Stick Vacuum takes a different route. Modern-day wet and dry cleaners are pure floor pushers, really. Hitachi did what Dyson did with its Pencil series, i.e., having two separate products, but it does not need you to buy two.
The PV-XHW4P has two parts. It is a regular stick vacuum weighing just 1.95 kilograms (4.3 pounds), while packing 550 watts of power, allowing it to be wielded. Hitachi wants you to use it to clean the floor, the couches, and even the top of furniture that you cannot see. When there are spills or you need the floor washed, just detach the lower section and dock the power unit to a floor washing unit, and voila, it’s floor washing time.
It promises to deep clean all floor types and provide hygienic cleaning with no clogging in the mop. A built-in hygienic waste control keeps waste in the easy-cleaning container. Like most modern wet and dry cordless stick vacuums, it features a Mop Self-cleaning Platform that automatically cleans and refreshes the mop after use.
As a vacuum, it sucks up a storm, thanks to Cyclone Storm, offering up to 225 Air Watts (AW) of suction power. It deep vacuums all floor types, hard-to-reach places, mattresses, couches, and stairs. Plus, it also has green LED lighting to help spot elusive dirt. This bank of green LED lights is composed of seven advanced white and green LED lights. Anyhoo, by having the wet function as an attachment—albeit a pretty large one—it allows the vacuum cleaner to be super lightweight, so it can easily be wielded and even raised above your shoulders to clean areas above, such as the top of tall furniture.
What really caught my attention is how slim it is as a vacuum, and notwithstanding this slim profile, it is packed with a battery good for up to 45 minutes on a single charge. Other features include a digital display for at-a-glance information, three modes of operation, one-touch disposal, an easy-grip handle, easy battery replacement, a 90° rotating head, and an auto-drive head to help you power through your cleaning.
This powerful smart head features the aforementioned Green LED Technology, plus a tangle-free brush. The device comes with a few useful accessories, including a handy brush for small and delicate surfaces like lampshades and keyboards, a mini power brush for mattresses, tight spaces, and upholstery, a 2-way crevice nozzle for narrow gaps, and a multi-angle nozzle for awkward, hard-to-reach spaces.
The Hitachi PV-XHW4P Wet & Dry Cordless Stick Vacuum has been announced for select Asian markets, including Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is available in Singapore at a special price of S$799 (S$829), which is around (US$632/US$656).
