Keeping a small plant alive can be a struggle. Meanwhile, LEGO has planted a 30-meter (98-foot) wave of flowers in Shanghai, and the maintenance requirements mostly involve making sure nobody walks off with a tulip.
The centerpiece of the LEGO Bloom Exhibition stretches across Shanghai’s West Bund, using more than 380,000 LEGO Botanicals pieces over an area of 800 square meters (8,611 square feet). Roses, sunflowers, tulips, and other brick-built plants took 1,200 hours to assemble by hand. LEGO calls it the largest Botanicals build ever constructed worldwide. The exhibition, which transforms the Tank Shanghai Art Centre and West Bund, also features 18 original artworks created with artists and adult LEGO fans. Metal, textiles, and mirrors join the bricks to reinterpret flowers and nature. Another 18 lifestyle displays demonstrate how Botanicals can fit into your home. Though the 30-meter arrangement might require a conversation with the neighbors.
Visitors can build their own creations and scan them into a shared digital flower landscape, adding to an evolving display. A chance to contribute without volunteering to sort 380,000 pieces afterward sounds reasonable. LEGO.com
More than 229,000 visitors had attended since its October 1 opening [CH], according to LEGO’s October 23 announcement. The exhibition runs through October 29, 2026, with an adult-focused LEGO pop-up store following in Shanghai in November.
Admission is free. Considering that it ends in two days, you probably aren’t going to make it if you are outside Shanghai. However, if you are in or around Shanghai and are interested in visiting, do note that while the outdoor flower wave and gallery need no reservation, the indoor exhibition requires advance booking through the official “LEGO乐高” WeChat mini program.
