Controlling the solar system sounds like something reserved for a cosmic supervillain. But thanks to LEGO Technic, you can now do it with one hand and absolutely no superpowers.
Meet the LEGO Technic Solar System Planets in Orbit (42254), a 572-piece mechanical model that brings our little corner of the universe to your desk.

Unlike a conventional static solar system display, this one actually moves. Turn the hand crank, and all eight planets begin orbiting the Sun, each traveling at its own speed through a clever arrangement of gears.
So, while Mercury races around our star, distant Neptune takes its sweet time. It’s a simple but effective way to demonstrate how planetary orbits work without having to stare at diagrams in a science textbook.
The model includes all eight planets, from Mercury to Neptune. Sorry, Pluto. You’re still not invited to the planet party.
Each planet also gets its own information panel packed with astronomical facts, making the set more than just a mechanical display. It’s an educational tool designed to introduce builders aged 10 and up to astronomy and basic mechanical principles.
And should the planets end up scattered around their respective orbits, you can manually realign them before starting another cosmic performance.
The completed model measures over 38 cm (15 inches) wide, making it a substantial display piece for a bedroom, study, or anywhere that could use a little planetary motion.
The LEGO Technic Solar System Planets in Orbit (42254) is scheduled for release on January 1, 2027, for US$99.99.
