LEGO Technic 1966 Ford GT40 MKII Race Car (42223)

Whether you gave the LEGO Technic 2022 Ford GT a pass because it is not “classic” enough of a Ford GT or simply because it is too expensive, well, we bring good news. LEGO has announced a new Ford GT, and this time, it is going to tickle the nostalgia in petrol heads. Everyone, please welcome the LEGO Technic 1966 Ford GT40 MKII Race Car (42223). This made-for-AFOLs set uses a modest 793 pieces to recreate a Technic version of the legendary champion car.

Obviously, it is not on the same scale as the 42154 from 2022. That model had more than twice the piece count and measured 9 cm high, 39 cm long, and 18 cm wide (about 3.5 x 15 x 7 inches). The new 42223, however, is much smaller at 7 cm high, 29 cm long, and 12 cm wide (about 2.5 x 11 x 4.5 inches). It may be smaller, but it is not lacking in details, which results in a model that oozes with the charm of the iconic ’60s vintage race car.

It features a knob on top of the car for steering, opening doors, the iconic black-and-silver livery, an opening hood, and an engine cover that opens to reveal the V8 engine with moving pistons. As far as product photos go, I think the LEGO Technic 1966 Ford GT40 MKII Race Car (42223) is as realistic as a Technic model can get for this legendary race car.

If you are sold like I am, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the drop on January 01, 2026, when it becomes available for a slightly affordable US$74.99. It is not a cheaper price per piece. It is actually 0.01 cent pricier, but by virtue of the piece count, it should be easier on the wallet.
