Porsche Carrera GT factory re-commissioned in Salzburg red and white livery with number 23, restored by Porsche Sonderwunsch

You heard of factory commission in the automobile world (which is pretty much all Rolls-Royce is, btw). But have you ever heard of factory re-commission? Well, it’s a thing now, and this beautiful Porsche Carrera GT dressed in Salzburg Design is one such factory re-commission vehicle. Porsche’s client, Victor Gómez from Puerto Rico, who wished that his 20-year-old ride could be restored to its original glory by Porsche, had his dream materialized.

And Porsche did not “freshen it up.” It basically erased the car’s age like it never happened. Under the Sonderwunsch programme, Gómez’s 2005 Carrera GT was completely disassembled, then rebuilt technically to what Porsche describes as a documented zero-kilometer condition. That means the V10 was overhauled from the ground up, and the carbon parts were recoated. The kind of work that makes most restoration shops quietly look away and pretend they have a meeting.

Then came the part that makes motorsport fans do the slow nod: Salzburg Design. In Porsche lore, Salzburg Design is tied to the red-and-white Porsche 917 that clinched Porsche’s first overall Le Mans win in 1970, wearing starting number 23. The catch is, a Carrera GT is not a 917. Different dimensions, different geometry, different body gaps, different everything. So Porsche could not just “apply the livery.” The designers had to sketch, render, and even tape the Carrera GT to map out the line flow before creating templates for the paintwork. That is old-school craftsmanship, not a “click export” situation.

The hand-painted finish in Guards Red and white, complete with the famous number 23, is then protected by a transparent foil. That detail matters, since Gómez actually plans to drive it on Puerto Rico’s roads instead of locking it in a climate-controlled shrine. The exterior is also treated to matte black carbon accents for contrast, including the roof halves, A and B pillars, mirror caps, front air duct, and rear diffuser. The engine cover grilles are matte black anodized, and the original five-spoke wheels are finished in black, topped with colored Porsche crests.

Inside, Gómez went equally personal. Porsche trimmed large sections in Guards Red Alcantara, including parts of the dashboard and door panels, the steering wheel rim, and the center console. Even the front luggage compartment trim and the luggage set carry the same suede-like red, so yes, your carry-on now matches your V10.

This is what Factory Re-Commission is about. Porsche takes a car you already own, performs a comprehensive factory overhaul until it is effectively reset, then reworks the exterior and interior color and material concept to your spec, all while keeping the changes documented and traceable in Porsche’s archive.

No price is attached here, since this is someone else’s wish fulfilled. The point is the existence of the option. Your old Porsche can now go back to Porsche, get rebuilt like new, and return wearing an identity that feels straight out of the company’s racing mythology.
