Lincoln Continental Concept

When the news of the Lincoln Continental Concept broke a few days ago, it created quite a buzz with at least one person saying it was a Bentley ‘copy’, but to us, rip off or not, it is pure awesomeness and that’s even before we dig further under the hood and learn what awaits within this luxury concept from the American car maker. But seriously, don’t all automobile look the same – I mean, don’t they all have a body and four wheels? What matter most is whether the design appeals and this case, the Continental Concept certainly appeal to us. The driving force behind this luxury beast is a “Lincoln-exclusive” 3.0L EcoBoost engine, but that’s all we know for now. Lincoln isn’t dishing out more details, not was numbers was offered, but we expect nothing less to come from it.

Drive-wise, there are words going around that it might get the all-wheel-drive system as found on the new Ford Focus RS, but that’s just hear say, which we can’t even remember where we read it. Everything bit about this machine points to luxury and while we may not be able to appreciate the point of luxury fully, we do appreciate the clean exterior and long, muscular hood. The Continental Concept offers a number interesting features, including “E-Latch” door handles that pops open the door at a touch of a button, LED matrix headlamps with laser-assist high beams, electrochromatic sunroof, seats with 30-way adjustment and premium Revel audio system, just to pick up a few.

As for the inside is all but business with focus on the rear passengers’ needs and creature comfort such as Alcantara seat inserts and armrests, satin headliner, shearling wool carpet, fully reclinable rear seats, a tablet-supporting lap tray, champagne storage compartment, and detachable, handcrafted Venetian leather travel cases on the backside of the front seats. Other features you can expect include huge 21-inch polished aluminum wheels, Lincoln Drive Control ride-enhancing technologies and Adaptive Steering, plus driver assist technologies such as 360-degree camera, enhanced park assist, and pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection.

It might be a concept now, but expect to see a production version sometime next year. The only question is, how many of the features on the concept will be carried over to the final production model and of course, how much will it cost. Probably an arm and a leg, we presume.
