RugGear, a leading designer and manufacturer of rugged mobile devices for professional and industrial use, has unveiled the new RG880 LTE smartphone. This rugged device, designed to meet the needs of various industries, supports digitalization efforts for companies and public safety organizations worldwide.
The RG880 is powered by the Snapdragon 680 4G Mobile Platform from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., ensuring optimized voice, video, and data transmission for safety-critical applications. Its innovative audio design, including a 103db speaker, offers high audio quality, even in noisy environments or when worn with the screen facing the body.
Featuring a 50 MP main camera, this smartphone is ideal for tasks like maintenance and surveillance, offering real-time high-resolution image and video capture. It’s replaceable 4500 mAh battery guarantees long runtimes and supports multi-shift operations – all without compromising its IP68 rating.
Security features include a side fingerprint sensor for quick and secure unlocking, ideal for emergency personnel wearing face protection. The PTT/MCPTT button and talk group switch simplify communication within mobile networks and WLAN, and various accessories enhance its versatility.
The RG880 is compatible with global carrier cellular standards, suitable for international, multi-country teams. It supports eMBMS, saves network resources, and boasts multifunctional satellite positioning technology for precise emergency response.
Like the entire RugGear range, the RG880 is military-tested (IP68, MIL-STD-810H), making it suitable for harsh working environments with rain, snow, temperature fluctuations, and humidity. In case anyone’s wondering, it has 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) drop protection and water resistance up to 1.2 meters/3.9 feet).
The RG880 is set to be available soon, offering a robust and feature-packed solution for mission-critical and industrial users. The device runs on Android 13 and packs 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage.
Other highlights include a 5.5-inch HD+ sunlight readable display that supports wet hands/gloves, an 8 MP front-facing camera, support for QC 3.0, dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi 6 ready, positioning (GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS/Galileo/Beidou), 13-pin interface for secure connection of PTT headset and PTT-RSM, a large, programmable side key, SOS key for LWP, PTT switch button, and freely assignable additional buttons.
What amazes me is that RugGear managed to make a rugged device without appearing too chunky. The device measures 161 by 75 by 15.8 mm. Though it is a little hefty, tipping the scales at 267g.
