Mickey Mouse debuted 97 years ago in Disney’s animated film Steamboat Willie. While it is not as old as, say, a pendulum clock, which is over 360 years old at this point, they are both equally vintage, and thus, it is fitting to celebrate the Mouse’s birthday with, well, a pendulum clock. Well, at least I think it is anyway.
Folks, meet the Disney Mickey Mouse Pendulum Wall Clock. Somehow, this unlikely matrimony between the vintage version of Mickey and a decidedly vintage-looking pendulum wall clock feels incredibly fitting. Like they were made for each other.
Seiko has cooked up not one but two versions of this nostalgia-packed timekeeper. The design is based on Seiko’s own wall clocks from the 1890s, the octagonal “Hakkaku Onaga” style, mashed with Mickey’s 1928 debut look.
The result is a clock that looks like it was dreamed up if Seiko and Disney had clinked glasses back in the roaring twenties. Mickey himself takes center stage on the dial, his gloved hands pulling double duty as the hour and minute hands, while the pendulum swings below with a Steamboat Willie illustration to remind you that yes, this is both classy and cartoony.
There’s more than just looks, though. Every hour, the clock belts out the jaunty “Steamboat Willie” melody, and every quarter hour, you’ll get a friendly steam whistle toot. If you think that sounds like overkill, worry not: a light sensor makes sure it shuts up at night.
The front glass door even features Seiko’s classic “S” trademark, while a faux winding key on the side adds a playful detail (spoiler: it does nothing). Each clock is serialized with a “2025 SPECIAL EDITION” plaque, because exclusivity matters.
Specs-wise, the clock measures 395 x 233 x 102 mm, weighs about 1.9 kg, and runs on three AA batteries with about a year of life. It comes in two finishes: a darker FS805B [JP] (limited to 300 units) and a lighter FS806B [JP] (limited to 200 units).
Each is priced at 55,000 yen (about US$360), and will be available starting November 18—Mickey’s actual birthday.
