Futuristic cars tend to shout. Sharp edges, angry lighting signatures, and pretty much everything that does not belong in the present time. The SP40 Restomod Speedster, however, does none of that, and that is exactly why it works, IMHO. Like the Mercedes-Benz Vision Iconic, Iconic Auto Sports is reminding everyone that retrofuturism is super cool, too.

Inspired by Edsel Ford’s legendary 1934 Model 40 Special Speedster, the SP40 looks like it jumped out of an Art Deco poster—or a noir film—then swapped out its old self for modern engineering. Built by the award-winning Argentinian atelier behind several concours-winning recreations, this is not nostalgia cosplay. OK, maybe a little. But more importantly, it is a full-blooded restomod that treats history with respect while fixing everything that made old cars… old.
The carbon-fiber body preserves the flowing boattail silhouette of the original, only now it is lighter, stiffer, and far less interested in cracking with age. Underneath sits a tubular spaceframe chassis engineered for modern performance, paired with a Ford Coyote V8 producing over 480 horsepower, a Tremec 5-speed manual, Brembo brakes, independent double-wishbone suspension, and adjustable coilovers. All that is wrapped in a package weighing just 1,190 kg (about 2,624 lbs), which explains why the car looks elegant and slightly menacing at the same time.
Inside, the SP40 is all about analog pleasure. Think walnut trim, machined aluminum, rich leather, and proper gauges you can actually read. Climate control and wireless charging are discreetly tucked away, like modern conveniences wearing period-correct disguises.
This is the kind of car built for people who enjoy driving, not updating software, if you know what I mean. No screens are yelling at you. No driver aids fighting your instincts. Just mechanical honesty wrapped in Streamline Moderne beauty.
Every SP40 is built to order and individually numbered. No two are alike. No mass production. No rush.
As for pricing, it has not been disclosed yet. However, interested buyers can head over to www.iconicautosports.com and sign up to be notified when the SP40 is ready for ordering.
